Nobody has one yet, so "need" isn't the right frame, "opportunity" is. Across the 1,823 home-service business websites we audited, only 7 (0.38%) mention an AI assistant or chatbot at all. Landscaping came in below even that already-tiny rate: not one of the 142 landscaping-business websites we crawled mentions AI, and not one has live chat either.
That reframes the usual pitch. Most "you need this or you'll fall behind" arguments assume competitors have already adopted the thing. In this market, they haven't: landscaping is the one trade in this batch where automated intake of any kind, AI or otherwise, came back at exactly zero. So the honest case for an AI receptionist isn't fear of falling behind, it's that the specific problem it solves (a lead reaching out and nobody responding fast) is real and currently unaddressed by essentially every landscaping business's own website.
Worth being precise about what "AI receptionist" actually means here, since the term gets used loosely. Some tools literally answer your ringing business phone line with a voice bot. Others, including SeenOnMain, work off your quote or contact form instead: the moment a lead submits it, the AI system alerts you with a call and a text, and you decide whether to pick up. Neither is wrong, they're different mechanisms solving slightly different problems, and it's worth knowing which one a given tool actually does before signing up.
This fits the broader pattern our full report found for landscaping specifically: its average Digital Lead Readiness Score (20.3) is the lowest of the 8 trades we audited. Automated lead-handling of every kind, not just AI, is further behind here than anywhere else we looked.
